How To Install MIUI 5 for Sony Xperia Z

The MIUI 5 ROM enjoys very good features and customization setting that you can utilize to generate a beautiful interface depending on your personal choices even there is truck load of themes to get a new look and feel.

MIUI 5 on Xperia Z is still under development and contains a few bugs such as 3.5mm jack is not working, no support Google contacts sync, and might be more, if do not care about them, you should give it a try as it’s very fast and sounds good.

Requirements

  • Keep in mind that your Sony Xperia Z must have unlocked bootloader, check this guide to unlock bootloader.
  • Make sure a custom recovery is installed on your Xperia Z, check this guide to install ClockworkMod recovery or this guide to install TWRP recovery.
  • Backup everything because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use the carbon Android app to backup apps and data.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of MIUI 5 for Xperia Z from here [XDA Link]

Step #2: Copy MI-ustone-UIzz.zip to external storage of your phone.

Step #3: Reboot phone by holding down volume down and power buttons to enter in bootloader mode and there open recovery mode.

Step #4: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again, if you’re on TWRP recovery, click on “backup” and slide the blue button to confirm the action.

Step #5: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” or select “install” for TWRP and locate the downloaded file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation.

Step #6: Once the installation is done, reboot phone to recovery mode.

Step #7: Go to Wipe Menu->Advanced Wipe and Check everything except USB OTG and SD (or what you want).

Step #8: Once again install the zip file.

Step #9: Select wipe cache and confirm on the next screen. At the end, select advanced, then select “wipe dalvik cache” and confirm action.

Step #10: Reboot the phone now.
