How To Install Android 4.2.2 update for Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE [official OTA firmware]

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is another lucky tablet that is now receiving the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update officially in UK. We expect many improvements that Google pushed out with Android 4.2 such as Photosphere to capture photos at 360 angle, gesture based keyboard, multi-user account support, daydream and many more.

However Android 4.2.2 firmware update is just available for Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE variant having model number GT-N5120 but we hope that Samsung will update all of Galaxy Note 8.0 variants all over the world as soon as possible. If you cannot wait or having trouble while updating your Note 8.0 to Android 4.2 officially through OTA and KIES, simply download and install Android 4.2.2 OTA firmware manually on your Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE.

This guide shows you how to install Android 4.2.2 update for Galaxy Note 8.0 manually, use a Windows PC with USB tablet drivers installed and make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use the carbon Android app to backup apps and data. Do not forget to disable system tools on computer such as antivirus and KIES as they can disturb installation.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the Android 4.2.2 N5120XXCMG7 firmware for Galaxy Note LTE from here to your computer.

Step #2: Download Odin3 v3.04 from here.

Step #3: Unzip both downloaded zip files into a folder.

Step #4: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above file and fire up Odin3 v3.04.exe file.

Step #5: Turn the device off.

Step #6: Reboot the device into download mode by holding down volume down, home and power buttons.

Step #7: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).

Step #8: Click on PDA Button and locate N5120XXCMG7_N5120BTUCMG7_BTU_N5120XXCMG7_HOME.tar.md5 from the folder where you’ve unzipped above files in the step 3. (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).

Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation is done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then turn off tab for a few seconds. Then reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again).

Step #10: If your device reboot into normal mode, you’re done, enjoy! But if you device gets stuck at boot screen, you need to perform wipe, to do so, turn off device, then reboot into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons, when screen turns on, leave power button but not volume down until you enter in recovery mode. In recovery mode, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen. Once it done, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot the phone.

That’s it, the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update is now installed on your Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE, if you experience any problem while updating tab manually, leave a comment.
