The shiny Xperia Z is Sony’s flagship smartphone that was expected to come with latest Android version but it disappointed and runs the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, I know the phone is great by the virtue of a lot of pre-installed features but I’m sure that many of us want to improve the usability of phone with latest Android 4.2.2 and waiting. We’ve finally got the good news, a recognized XDA develop member DooMLoRD has released a leaked build of OTA Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean build for your Sony Xperia Z even the build ready for installation via recovery. This leaked ROM suggest us that the Sony Xperia Z may get the Android 4.2.2 officially soon in near future.
Since this is a leaked Sony Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean build, you may expect a few things not work but nothing is reported yet. Do note that you should not crossflash the ROM and kernel. Keep in mind that this Android 4.2.2 build is compatible with just Xperia Z C6602/C6603, so do not try on Xperia ZL or tablet.

Requirements
- Keep in mind that your Sony Xperia Z must have unlocked bootloader, check this guide to unlock bootloader.
- Your phone must be on 253/.307 build, check status from Setting>About Phone.
- Make sure a custom recovery is installed on your Xperia Z, check this guide to install ClockworkMod recovery or this guide to install TWRP recovery.
- You need a Windows PC and make sure USB drivers for Xperia Z and Android ADB drivers are installed. Use official Sony PC software to install USB drivers and check this guide (for Windows) or this guide (for Mac) to install Android ADB.
- Backup everything because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use the carbon Android app to backup apps and data.

Instructions
Step #1: Turn off your Sony Xperia Z and reboot into recovery mode by holding down volume up and power buttons, in recovery mode create nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again, if you’re on TWRP recovery, click on “backup” and slide the blue button to confirm the action.
Step #2: Download the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean leaked OTA for Sony Xperia Z from here or here.
Step #3: Copy the zip file to internal storage of your Sony Xperia Z.
Step #4: Download the Fastoot Package to your PC.
Step #5: Unzip the downloaded fastboot.zip file into C drive “c:\”, it’ll generate fastboot folder containing four files.
Step #6: Unzip the ROM zip (downloaded in step 2) and get the boot.img file, then copy the boot.img file to fastboot folder, now you have 5 files in fastboot.
Step #7: Turn your Sony Xperia Z off.
Step #8: Reboot phone into fastboot mode, to do this reboot phone by holding down volume down and power buttons.
Step #9: Once you’re in fastboot mode, plug phone to PC using a USB cable.
Step #10: Open up the command prompt on PC that can be found from Start menu>All Programs>Accessories.
Step #11: Enter following command on command prompt, it will take you to fastboot folder:
cd c:\Fastboot
Step #12: Enter following command prompt to install boot.img:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If you get a message saying “waiting for device”, then enter another command to install kernel:
fastboot -i 0x0fce flash boot boot.img
Once the boot.img is installed on your phone, you’ll get a message saying “finished”/OKAY.
Step #13: Once the installation is done, unplug phone from PC and put it in recovery mode.
Step #14: In recovery mode, perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen then select wipe cache and confirm on the next screen. At the end, select advanced, then select “wipe dalvik cache” and confirm action.
Step #15: Return to main menu by selecting “Go Back”.
Step #16: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” or select “install” for TWRP and locate the downloaded file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.
Step #17: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot phone.
